Bless the Beasts and the Children - Submitted by anonymous on January 10, 2003
Bless the Beasts and the Children -*Summer camp can be a blast for kids, but not if you're a victim of torment. Based on the novel by the late Glenden Swarthout this Stanley Kramer film follows a group of outcast boys at a tough Western camp. The kids, coming from every walk of life imaginable, eventually run away from camp to free a field full of rotten buffalo from being slaughtered ... with both triumphant and tragic results. Incredibly strong at the time of it's release in 1971, the film maintains that strength even today. Rated 'PG' (the video box might say 'R' but that is a mistake) for strong language, sexual themes and violence.

Welcome to the Dollhouse - Submitted by anonymous on January 10, 2003

Welcome to the Dollhouse -*This film focuses on an adolescent girl named Dawn Weiner. She is misunderstood at home, verbally tormented at school.and falls in love with the most undesirable boy at school. There is one sequence involving her favored younger sister sleeping peacefully and a hammer that will momentarily freeze your blood. All in all a gently funny, disturbing and sad movie....more importantly an incredibly insightful film about kids. Rated 'R' for strong language, violence and sexual themes.

RATS & BULLIES - Submitted by Roberta on May 05, 2004
This groundbreaking and powerful Feature Documentary explores the darker side of female relational aggression and bullying as told through the story of Dawn-Marie Wesley, who at the age of 14, hung herself with a dog leash after being bullied and threatened by three of her "closest" friends. In her suicide note, Dawn-Marie named her three tormentors, which led to a police investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The result was a landmark precedent setting court case in which the three girls were made to stand trial for their bullying actions. In this film, the audience will hear from those who have never spoken publicly before about the incident, until now: including Provincial Court Judge Jill Rounthwaite, who presided over the landmark court case and handed down the precedent setting sentencing to two of the girl bullies; Dawn-Marie's brother DJ, who at the age of 13, discovered his sister after she committed suicide; Dawn-Marie's best friend Paula who talks about the grief of losing her best friend and her thoughts on the bullies; the current Member of the Legislative Assembly Randy Hawes, who was the Mayor of Mission when Dawn-Marie took her life. Hawes speaks candidly about the school system and the role that school's play in bullying situations. Additonally, viewers will hear an exclusive interview with "K' who was one of the bullies made to stand trial, who talks about the remorse she feels and the anguish of losing her friend and the role that she played in that loss, and what she thinks could have prevented the tragedy that occurred. Also featured is an exclusive interview with New York Times bestselling author of the book, "Queen Bees & Wannabes", Rosalind Wiseman. "Queen Bees & Wannabes" is the book which the current Paramount movie "Mean Girls" is based on. Rosalind Wiseman is also the co-founder and President of the Washington, D.C. based Empower Program, which teaches educators, kids, and parents that violence amongst kids is not a rite of passage. The Empower Program lectures at schools throughout the United States and internationally and teaches ways to prevent bullying. Also featured in the film is a powerful and emotional interview with Dawn-Marie's mother Cindy Wesley, who talks about the loss of her daughter, and the pain she and her family must cope with. Also included is an interview with a Mom whose son was about to commit suicide due to bullying, but fortunately she realized his plans in time and was able to save him. "RATS & BULLIES" has been described as "powerful", "groundbreaking", "raw", and "moving". The Filmmakers Roberta McMillan & Ray Buffer offer a Filmmaker Appearance Series, where they travel to schools and show the film. The film is then followed with a panel discussion on bullying and female relational aggression, and ways to stop bullying behavior.
